Frequently Asked Questions
Below are the most common questions we encounter from our canvassing and prospective clients:
Do I need a web developer or a web designer? What's the difference anyway? How about a Web Master?
It is always thought that three terms - Web Developer, Web Designer and Web Master - are just the same...they all do and setup websites. The truth is, they aren't.
In terms of scope, the Web Developer has more responsibilities and wider work to perform. Starting from project proposal making, identification of applicable and best resources, consultancy, actual physical design and functionalities of web pages, debugging of scripts, creating solutions for cross-platform and security issues, database approach and management, SEO, server and remote backups, and many-many more. He develops websites and does not only design them, meaning, after the website is launched, you still work with him as a client because web development does not end after launching the site. There are SEO, content management, updates, and some other technical jobs to do.
On the other hand, the web designer, is primarily resonsible in creatively and innovatively design of each web pages that the whole website will use. He recommends the proper web page element to use. He is responsible for every icon, every color, every photo, every animation, and every font to be used. Sometimes, the creation of cascading style sheet (CSS) is also his responsibility. In the corporate world, he receives orders and instructions from the Web Developer and under his department, his subordinates are the Graphic Artists, Flash Animators, Layout Artists, Photographers, Videographers and Audiomen. Once the design is finished and redesigned for further improvements, his (as well as his department) is done with the project.
In the freelance and "one-man-band" web development world, the Web Master is king. As a master, he must know the combined knowledge, capabilities, skills and standards of both the Web Developer and Web Designer.
Now in terms of clientele need, it's not the issue of how high you can pay but you must find somebody who can match the complexities of your dream website and somebody whom can handle your situation which includes all forms of your resources (such as time, budget, contents, etc.), trust issues, and rapport. Find someone who can truly understand not only what you want to your website, but also what your target audience would want in your website.
How much does a web site cost?
The total cost of creating your website depends on several factors. These factors include how many pages you are going to have, if you will sell products on your website, the graphic work involved, and how interactive your future web site will be. You will also need web hosting and domain name registration.
A good web developer must include and not purposely hide or delay information regarding the costs that you will pay to him as well as the recurring fees in the future. This is where clients get mad of their web developers because they do not mention any future fees that you might pay them in exchange of some services.
You should ask a quotation from your target web developers. This quotation must include several packages which you can choose from. After collecting price quotations, do the math for yourself regarding what your website really needs during creation, on launching date and after the launching date.
Is it OK to hire a "local" web site designer/developer?
It is OK to avail the services of a "local" web developer and/or designer as long it will meet the needs and standards of your website. To express and analyze everything that needs to be known in the cheapest communication costs must also be considered. By using the Internet, email and the telephone, it is possible to communicate effectively with clients in any location.
How long does it take to have a web site designed?
The time frame is determined by the size of your web site, the complexity of your site design, and our current client design schedule. Usually a 30-working day is sufficient enough to finish a 10-page standard advertisement or brochure-type website. The more functions and programming your website requires, the more time must be invested too and an ample time for debugging, cross-platform testing, link testing, security testing, and data input testing must be provided. A rush website, no matter how excelent it may look, will always have trouble in the future and hope that it's you who will discover it and not your online visitors, specially hackers.
